In 1990, the track was released on Derrick May's Transmat label, and R&S Records distributed the techno anthem to the European market. Arguably the most important five minutes and forty-three seconds of the early nineties is now reissued in remastered form on a single-sided 12" disc. A look at local techno dancefloors, where 'Energy Flash' is still being played nearly a quarter of a century after its release, proves that this was necessary. Along with Rhythim Is Rhythim's "Strings Of Life" and Inner City's "Good Life", Joey Beltram's supposedly innocent ode to ecstasy was and remains one of the most important - and, incidentally, most incendiary - artefacts of a subculture so often accused of lacking historical awareness.
