The perfectionism with which Fleetwood Mac's ‘Tango in the Night’ was crafted reached a level of intensity that few artists before or since have achieved. Commercially and creatively, the hard work paid off. Recorded in 18 months, this triple-platinum album spawned four hit singles and brought Fleetwood Mac back to the centre of the mainstream. However, its demands forced its chief architect, guitarist-vocalist Lindsey Buckingham, to leave the band shortly after its completion. Was it all worth it? A thousand times yes.
Recorded from the original master tapes, pressed at the Fidelity Record Pressing factory and housed in a Stoughton cover, the numbered Mobile Fidelity edition of the 180g two-record set at 45rpm ‘Tango in the Night’ showcases the 1987 recording in audiophile sound for the first time. Everything that co-producers Buckingham and Richard Dashut sought to bring to the music - calibrated intonations, soft textures, lush atmospherics, altered harmonics, unique tones, pristine acoustics, edgy rhythms - can now be heard with enhanced precision, range, depth and detail.
