The band was formed in 1969 under the name Silent Eruption, with members hailing from Ghana, Curacao, Guyana and Jamaica. Precious Wilson, who joined Eruption in 1974, brought an element to the band's sound that led to the band's worldwide success. While touring in Germany, they were discovered by talent scout and producer Frank Farian, who is also known as the founder of Boney M, Milli Vanilli and La Bouche.
