Compiled by legendary producer Arthur Baker, "Breakers Revenge" is an almost absolute collection of original classic funk, soul, Latin, disco and electro tracks from 1970-1984.
These tracks, combining the classic and the unusual, have become legendary for breakdancers around the world. First played at South Bronx neighbourhood parties, public spaces and park gatherings in the 1970s and 80s, they were spun endlessly by the first three leading hip-hop DJs - Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa - and have been found in the archives of every famous DJ ever since.
Foundational funk and soul tracks such as Dennis Coffey's "Scorpio", The Jimmy Castor Bunch's "It's Just Begun", James Brown's "Get On The Good Foot", The Mohawks' "Champ" are here juxtaposed with Afrika Bambaataa's innovative, classic electro "Planet Rock" and Arthur Baker's own defining "Breaker's Revenge".
Breakdancing has come a long way from its New York roots to its respected status as an art form today, where for the first time ever it will be featured at the Olympic Games to be held in Paris in August 2024.
"Breakbeat" remains at the heart of hip hop, these mercurial funk, soul and disco tracks are always 100% guaranteed to get the b-boys and b-girls moving at any party and the percussive breakdown of each track will be the pinnacle soundtrack to any dance/fight between breakdancers of any level.
In addition, these tracks have already been sampled many times by all the big name hip-hop artists and producers. KRS-ONE, Marley Marl, Kanye West, Jay-Z, Public Enemy, Eric B, The Fugees, Outkast, Mos Def, Main Source, Jungle Brothers, LL Cool J, De La Soul and pretty much everyone!
