Blemish

UMC are proud to announce the reissue on 180 gram vinyl of David Sylvian's album Blemish. Vinyl versions of this record have not been released since their very limited initial run in the early 2000s. This new version of 'Blemish' (1LP) was remastered for vinyl by veteran engineer Tony Cousins at Metropolis Studios. 'Blemish' was David Sylvian's first solo album released on his samadhisound label. Originally released online in 2003, a vinyl version was released in 2004 and is now a collector's item. Working predominantly solo, Sylvian has created an improvised set of songs for guitar, electronics and voice. The compositions were the result of improvisational sessions between Sylvian and renowned free-jazz guitarist Derek Bailey on three tracks and Austrian guitarist and producer Christian Fennes on "A Fire In A Forest". Sylvian said of the album at the time, "I wanted to tap into these complex emotions, and get as deep into them as I felt I was capable of doing, in the safety of this workspace. So while there were elements in my life that brought all these negative emotions to the forefront, what I was doing in the studio was pushing them further - whereas in life we try to contain them, we hold them back. We don't allow ourselves to go too far with them because they feel dangerous, threatening. Going through these emotions was very difficult, but finding a voice for them was so cathartic. After this six-week period, I felt that I had worked through some very difficult emotions. I felt a huge release."
