The first single from the album, titled ‘Numb/Encore’, immediately reached high positions in the charts and held them for about half a year. The second single was the track ‘Points of Authority/99 Problems/One Step Closer’, released for rotation on US radio stations, and did not participate in the Billboard Charts. Video clips for both tracks, as well as the ‘Jigga What/Faint’ music video, were featured on Kerrang! TV in the UK.
In fact, it is the second mini-album in history (after 1994's “Jar of Flies” by Alice in Chains) to reach the Billboard Hot 200.
The intention to record a mashup album with Jay-Z was voiced by Mike Shinoda during the 2004 Grammy Awards.
During the mixing of the album, communication between Shinoda and Jay-Z was maintained via email. According to Mike, they wanted to rework and rewrite some parts of the songs to improve the sound. Shinoda suggested that his bandmates re-record the instrumental versions and vocals of the tracks present on the mashup, and eventually both parties (both Jay-Z and Linkin Park) decided to redo and release the re-recorded tracks.
