‘Colours holds a special place in my heart because it's not only my first solo album, but also because I've had the opportunity to collaborate with all sorts of talented people,’ the producer says of his groundbreaking album. ‘Musicians of such calibre as Dave Ital (guitar), jazz great Julian Joseph (keyboards and Fender Rhodes), MC Conrad (MC/artist), Ronnie Jordan (jazz guitarist who became a hit with Miles Davis' composition “So What”), Tim Filbert/Tim The Bass (bass), Greg Lester (bass), Maurice Capillier/MC MC (live MC)...’
Adam continues, ‘We were honoured to be nominated for a MOBO Award in the “Best Album of the Year” category alongside big names of the time including Hindoo Hicks, Des'ree, Lighthouse Family and Massive Attack. In fact, I was so sure we wouldn't win that I didn't have a speech prepared, and it definitely showed in my genuine surprise. Colours was also a Top 20 hit on the UK National Chart, making Metropolis win Melody of the Year at the Underground Awards. The music on In My Mind from the same album was inspired by Herbie Hancock's compositions ‘Rocket’ and ‘I Thought It Was You’.
‘ Looking ahead to 2020, I will say that I never thought about ever addressing ‘Colours’. But time seems to have run out, the interest is there.’ The revised album cleverly weaves the energy of new live instruments with 80s British electronica and jazz fusion inspired sounds from the original.
The result is a project that not only brings the album into the brilliant present, but somehow manages to add depth and a sense of understanding to the original ‘Colours’, the sentiments hidden within it and how and why it has influenced so many others since its introduction around the world. This is a must-have album that pays homage to what has become a cornerstone in the history of British electronic music.
