The band consisted of six members: a vocalist, drummer, bassist, guitarist and saxophonist. Organist Bill Hunt added French horn and joined ELO after the band disbanded in 1971. Yes, this record was released in 1970, and it's a very consistent record. There are no explosive horns here, and when horns do appear, they are often dissonant and adventurous rather than just blasting away like Chicago or other bands. Guitarist Adrian is fantastic, and he wrote all the music except for the closing piece the band worked on.
In the opening track "Look Upon Me" the brass appear after 3 minutes, while the guitar takes centre stage at the beginning. "Winds Of Change" talks about a breakup as the chorus features the phrase "Goodbye my friend...". The vocals here are very emotional. The last four tracks are awesome, starting with "Bend For A Friend", which starts with smooth rhythms and guitar and then brass and organ come and go. By the 5th minute, things change, becoming jazzy. Organ in slow tempo a minute later, then an energetic saxophone solo.
