My Life in the Bush of Ghosts is a bold experimental album that was revolutionary for both Brian Eno and David Byrne. Released in 1981, the album was ahead of its time, combining electronic music, ethnic music, found sounds, and samples of voices from radio and television broadcasts, which was completely unheard of at the time.
The album feels like a journey through the cultural and media layers of the world — tracks are built around fragments of Islamic chants, evangelical sermons, African rhythms, and Arabic intonations, combined with mechanical percussion, funky bass, and atmospheric synthesizers. This approach to music was a breakthrough — it foreshadowed a whole generation of electronic artists, as well as the emergence of genres such as worldbeat, ambient techno, trip-hop and sample-based music in general.
