Echo & The Bunnymen first released the single The Back Of Love in 1982, almost nine months before the album was released in 1983. It became the band's first single to reach the UK Top 20 and also charted in Ireland. He contributed to the release of the album Porcupine in 1983, and Ian Broudy, who later formed the band The Lightning Seeds, returned to production duties, co-producing their debut album Crocodiles.
