The band recorded the album RELAXER in London with producer Charlie Andrew, who also produced the first two alt-J albums. The songs on the album were composed not only while the album was being recorded, but also while the band members were studying at the University of Leeds. Six of the album's eight tracks feature string parts played by the London Metropolitan Orchestra. RELAXER includes "House of the Rising Sun," a traditional folk tune in a new arrangement, complemented by verses by the band. "3WW" and "Deadcrush" were recorded with Wolf Alice vocalist Ellie Rowsell, while "Last Year" features British singer Marika Hackman, who also sang on the previous alt-J album.
