Same as other solo works by Jon Lord, 1976's "Sarabande" shows him pretty far from the hard rock of Deep Purple and pretty close to an admixture of classical music and rock, which is actually pretty hard to pigeonhole or classify.
"Sarabande" is an ambitious and long album divided in eight parts with a sort of conceptual continuity, where the scarce outbursts of a classical orchestra (The Philharmonia Hungarica) are perfectly tamed by rock instruments, namely bass guitar, electric guitar, drums and -of course- Jon Lord's Hammond organ, that presides the whole recording with paternal authority.
