Stupid Dream was the album that marked the moment when Porcupine Tree finally ceased to be a cult psychedelic project for a small circle of fans and became one of the most interesting progressive rock bands of the late 1990s. Steven Wilson significantly reduced the length of the instrumental improvisations, focusing instead on strong melodies, emotive lyrics and an almost perfect balance between art rock, progressive rock and British alternative rock.
