Part of Analogue Productions' Prestige stereo reissue series, 25 of the most collectible, rare, audiophile Rudy Van Gelder recordings ever made.
Since the early 1950s, Willie Dixon has been the studio king of Chicago blues, writing, producing and playing bass on countless classic albums by Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush and many others. Dixon has always managed to find time away from the studio to work as a performer, playing bass and singing his own tunes in an extremely convincing conversational baritone. He was working in a coffee shop with pianist Memphis Slim when he recorded his first album as a leader in 1959. In addition to his unique interpretations of "Nervous" and "Built for Comfort", it includes eight lesser-known compositions from Dixon's prolific pen. It differs from all of Dixon's other albums in that he and Slim are accompanied not by the usual cast of Chicago bluesmen, but by a group of New York mainstream jazz musicians, including tenor saxophonist Hal Ashby, guitarist Wally Richardson, and drummer Gus Johnson.
