The debut album Badlands is a record that today sounds like a missing chapter in the history of hard rock. Created in 1989 by guitarist Jake E. Lee after leaving Ozzy Osbourne's band, the release brought together musicians of exceptional energy. Vocalist Ray Gillen — the blessing and tragedy of the album — had a voice somewhere between early Robert Plant and young Dio: predatory, wild, flexible, with a natural drama that defies the artificial ‘effects of the era.’
