One of the most valuable versions of the iconic soundtrack to the animated film *Heavy Metal* (1981). The album was released as a double LP with a luxurious gatefold cover and, as is always the case with Japanese releases, stands out for its high-quality production and superb sound. The first pressing included an OBI strip and an insert with lyrics and information in Japanese.
The soundtrack is a veritable encyclopedia of American hard rock and heavy metal from the early 1980s. It features tracks by such legendary artists as Sammy Hagar, Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Cheap Trick, Journey, Nazareth, Stevie Nicks, Donald Fagen, Don Felder, Grand Funk Railroad, Devo, Riggs, and Trust. Particularly notable are “Heavy Metal,” “Veteran of the Psychic Wars,” “The Mob Rules,” “Open Arms,” and “Blue Lamp,” which have long since become classics of the genre.
