◆ Lo-fi hip-hop, whose popularity shows no sign of waning, has gained prominence thanks to streaming services, leading to a rapid increase in fans worldwide. In Japan, it has become a genuine phenomenon, as evidenced by airings on TV Asahi’s ‘Sekijamu: Kanzen Nenshō’ and on TBS Radio’s ‘After 6 Junction’. ‘Lo-Fi Ghibli’ is an album of covers of songs from Studio Ghibli films in the lo-fi hip-hop style, whose melodic and mellow sound—combining elements of jazz hip-hop and chill-hop—has gained popularity all over the world!
◆ The album is being produced by the Grey October Sound team, who have released high-quality lo-fi hip-hop compilations such as ‘Timeless’ and ‘The Cave’. They perform covers of such famous songs from Studio Ghibli’s works as ‘Kimi Wo Nosete’, ‘Umi No Mieru Machi’ and ‘Yasashisa ni Tsutsumareta Nara’!
◆ The cover was created by illustrator Rika Hase, who specialises in book and CD cover design, advertising graphics and visual elements for videos. Her style pays homage to lo-fi hip-hop and Studio Ghibli.
