5 Vymir’s debut studio album is like a rough-edged blend of 70s psychedelia and 90s Britpop, steeped in our local dreamy spirit, but seasoned with the fresh, vibrant energy of healthy (and I don’t mean ‘size’) audacity. It’s turned out to be very atmospheric – special mention for the keyboard lines, though it’s worth noting that only live instruments are featured here, with no digital effects whatsoever. What’s more, this is one of those cases where it’s worth listening closely to the lyrics, and where the intonations of the voices really do add nuance to the meaning. It’s hard to say just how spontaneous they are, but they work. Not shouting, not an outpouring of emotions – a dialogue. What should the desire to get up to mischief sound like when it’s undertaken by intelligent, sensitive young people from educated families?
