Iryna Bilyk is a legendary Ukrainian singer, a trendsetter in music, and a leading artist of the 1990s. She gained fame through bold musical experiments and frequent changes in her artistic style. The 2000 album “OMA” was a creative experiment in which Iryna Bilyk introduced a new sound and a variety of lyrical themes dedicated to the changes around her and her inner struggles.
Iryna Bilyk’s musical career began back in 1988; she quickly achieved success thanks to a combination of avant-garde arrangements and sophisticated lyrics of her own composition. The album “OMA” is the artist’s sixth studio project, created as a search for self in the rapidly changing world around her. “OMA” is one of the artist’s most candid albums; in her own words, the title reflects the state of “when you’re feeling really great.” The lead track of the release is the song “Vybachay,” for which a music video was later filmed in collaboration with one of Ukraine’s leading music video directors, Max Paperny. Conceptually, the album is a blend of rock, acoustic, and elements of gospel, wrapped in a more “dark” and “mature” thematic framework.
