If opener ‘Burning Chapel’ is a little stilted, ‘Running For Life’ is clearly a step in the right direction, and ‘Sexual Lover’ is clearly an exploratory, even psychedelic musical sex orgy - a very Fudge-esque affair. The second side of the record consists of three completely re-arranged ‘covers’, the first of which you have to look out for to find the original slowed down (again Fudge-inspired) classic Lovin' Spoonful - it's just a masterstroke. Next up is a bold (but doomed) rendition of the hit California Dreamin' - but who could replace those gorgeous vocal harmonies. As bold and daring as it is, it partly succeeds - hence the implied fiasco - Fudge would not have missed such a chance!!!! Reach out is another heavily psychedelia and prog infused ‘cover’.
Whilst this debut album isn't perfect, it bodes a lot for the future, and it will be bright (but short, as they've only released one more album) as subsequent albums are very Zappa-like.
