In 1975, there was an album that quietly vanished after pressing only 50 copies without a cover. This album was recorded by Snakes Alive and released by themselves. Their self-titled album contains an exquisite combination of progressive rock and jazz rock, also its high quality easily showed the magnificent talent of the members. But this album was barely known to people because of its extremely low number of pressings before the bootleg CD from Japan.
Splendid organs on top of a solid rhythm part are the core of the sound, and the solos of the two wind instruments on it show off a strong presence throughout the record. Their songs are dramatic and detailed, reminiscent of King Crimson and it's hard to believe that they're an unknown group because of their ability to create a variety of expressions.
This rare album is now almost impossible to figure out the numbers of the remaining ones. But fortunately, thanks to Michael Vidale, he has kept all the master-tape in a perfect condition, the album was possible to be reissued now in excellent sound quality. The reissued LP by Merry-Go-Round records has a great significance by containing all the songs by Snakes Alive in two discs. And the design of the album cover which is different from the bootleg CD, is also authorized as the official cover by the members of the group.
