The Monchengladbach-born German band Excalibur was discovered by drummer Dickie Tarrach (The Rattles, Propeller, Wonderland and Brave New World) and released just one album in their career, "The First Album" in 1971.
Produced by Tarrach and recorded at Windrose Dumont Time Studios in Hamburg, the album can be categorised as a mixture of Birth Control and the boogie of early 1970s American bands such as Ten Years After and Grand Funk Railroad. The highlight of the album is Hartmut Scholgens' keyboard playing, which creates passages and melodies typical of those early days of hard rock.
