The band was formed in 1969 in Birmingham, England, by keyboardist Jill Saward, guitarist Dave Bell, bassist Colin Dawson, and drummer Dave Cowell. The band began playing gigs around the local club scene, and quickly developed a reputation for their innovative and dynamic live performances.
In 1970, the band signed a recording contract with EMI Records and released their debut album, Skeleton in Armour, in 1973. The album was produced by the legendary Tony Visconti, who had previously worked with artists such as David Bowie and T. Rex.
Skeleton in Armour was a critical success, receiving widespread praise for its intricate musical arrangements and experimental sound. However, the album failed to achieve commercial success, and the band subsequently disbanded in 1975.
Despite their short-lived career, Fusion Orchestra has remained a cult favorite among progressive rock fans. Their music continues to be celebrated for its creativity, originality, and technical virtuosity.
